• Over this last weekend I finally sat down and reviewed my recent purchases which have been 70% dividend-paying Canadian large-cap stocks.  Simply put, only about 20 of the 30 stocks on my Buy list made the cut so far.  I put in buy orders for the day and if the price strikes then I become the proud owner of a few lots.  Some of my recent buys are: CM-THSE-T and MFC-T.

  • I have focussed on the sectors and companies I feel represent long-term holds.  I think it has become pretty clear, at least to me, that long-term is not defined by a certain number of years rather by the time to the next cyclical peak of a particular stock or sector
  • How does one determine when something peaks?  When the markers of a psychological peak become pervasive in the media.  Just think of the articles and headlines surrounding the recent oil peak.
  • I am not ‘All In’ at this time but plan to be before the end of the year.  Then I sit back and switch gears - waiting for peak indicators which I suspect will be years in the making.  OK, not exactly sit back, when more bargains appear I will have bolstered my investment funds both from my J-Bond (J-O-B) and dividends and distributions collected.  I am a dividend-reinvestor just not necessarily in the same company that paid out the dividends unless their stock proves to be the best choice at the time.  It depends on the competition for my dollars.
