What is an Asset?
My simple definition is: Anything that puts something in your pocket.
Notably vague and broad for a definition but the ‘pocket’ is not literal - anything (or anyone, including you) that contributes to your wealth, success and happiness is an asset. In the strictest financial sense, an asset is something that puts money in your pocket and a liability is anything that takes money from your pocket (compliments of Robert Kiyosaki).
What makes me qualified to be an Assetologist?
Energy, passion and the taste of success!
My interest in Financial Freedom started in earnest over a decade ago. Many of my thoughts, ideas, successes and mistakes have been recorded in a small journal. I will continue my journey toward financial freedom and hope to share ideas and stories such that we can all learn. I truly believe the Collective Wisdom of a small group of people is astounding and if we are able to combine that wisdom in a constructive fashion we can all find our personal path to success!
What is Success? Like most answers - “It depends”. I believe we all have the drive to obtain our personal marks of Success and for me these goals cross the spheres of family, health, finances, spirituality, friends.
At Assetology.com I will attempt to address Financial Science when it will help all of us make better decisions. Whenever possible, I intend to provide references and analyze the source of information but more importantly, suggest how and if your daily decisions should be influenced.
However, if science is applied within a vacuum with tightly controlled variables truth will be discovered. But who wants to know what works in a vacuum???
We live in a complex environment with a multitude of demands and roles to play. We want to know what works and how to achieve our Goals.
Why is Philosophy in the subtitle of a personal wealth blog?
Simply because it matters. As the great saying goes ” The problem with climbing the ladder of success is that once you reach the top you may find your ladder was up against the wrong wall”! Sure I will spice the site with my personal philosophies but that is because they are exactly that, personal. I suspect that you will find that you agree with some and regard other ideas with skepticism, but that is the idea - grow through sharing.
One of my major goals with Assetology.com is that we learn how to Plant Seeds that will provide fruit for years to come. I enjoy reading but crave thinking and synthesis of ideas into practical solutions more. I read a multitude of financial sources in the early morning.
You will find that many posts here will focus on philosophy and blabbering thoughts but don’t worry ‘real’ financial stuff will be added to the mix!
